You are seen. You are heard. You are respected.
About Me
I have worked in the mental health field since 2005. I have been a practicing school social worker since 2007 and a licensed therapist working with individuals and couples since 2020. My specialties include life transitions, relationship conflict, holistic wellness, pregnancy/parenting, anxiety and depression. I am a trained childbirth educator and have worked with many expectant couples and new parents in navigating pregnancy, birth, and the numerous transitions involved with becoming a parent. As a woman of color I strive to provide increased access to culturally responsive therapy to other BIPOC individuals. I am a champion for social justice and consider myself a gender identify affirming therapist as well as an ally for the LGBTQIA+ community.
Specializing in Life Transitions, Anxiety, and Depression
Anxiety
As a therapist I have many years of experience helping clients who suffer from the debilitating effects of anxiety and the disruption that it causes in their day to day lives. I utilize a variety of techniques to assist clients in managing their anxiety. Some of these include, mindfulness practice, cognitive behavioral therapy, and holistic management of symptoms.
Depression
Depression can feel like an extremely frustrating and dark cloud that impacts almost every aspect of someone's life. Sadly, many people do not reach out for help until they have suffered for years. No mater where you are in your mental health journey, you should be proud of yourself for taking such an important step to getting help. I support clients thorough a variety of techniques that include cognitive behavioral therapy, person centered, and solution focused therapy.
Pregnancy/Parenting
As a parent of four children, a school social worker, and a trained childbirth educator I have many years of experience working with children as well as expectant parents as they undergo the transition through pregnancy to becoming parents. These years are exciting but are also full of uncertainty and self doubt. I am here as a sounding board and a support for these challenging and rewarding years. I will validate your feelings as well as provide you with the reassurance that this is a season of life that you CAN get through and grow through the process.
Couples Therapy
With years of experience guiding couples through their relational challenges, I offer a supportive space where both partners can be heard and validated. My therapy sessions are balanced and non-judgmental, drawing from my over 20 years of marriage to understand the perseverance needed for a healthy relationship. I assist couples in identifying and changing negative interaction patterns, promoting healthier communication and a deeper connection.
LGBTQIA+ Affirming
I am a proud ally to my LGBTQIA+ folks. Whether you are a trans man, trans woman, gender fluid, or gender non conforming, you are respected and I will hold space for you if you wish to explore your identity and the layers of intersectionality. I respect pronouns and am constantly challenging myself to learn more.
Culturally Responsive
As a woman of color, I am intimately familiar with the marginalization faced by the BIPOC community and understand the profound impact of implicit bias and systemic racism on mental health. I have been deeply invested in social justice, racial equity, and gender equality throughout my professional career. In addition to my private practice, I serve as a School Social Worker in a community that has been grappling with complex race relations for many years. I actively chose this path in an effort to impact positive change within my community and it's education system. My work focuses on empowering students to grow self-advocacy and self-care skills. As a therapist, I encourage clients to find their passions and challenge them to explore these passions with bravery.
